New York Surrogate's Court Procedures Act § 1401 provides that if “there is reasonable ground to believe that any person knows the whereabouts or destruction of a Will of a Decedent the court may make an order requiring the person” to produce the Will. It is a felony to conceal, mutilate or destroy a Will in New York. See NY Penal Law § 190.30.
